The El Batel Auditorium hosted this Thursday evening the XXXIX Cartagena Sports Awards for 2021 and 2022. The Gala, which rbrought together nearly 800 athletes, sports fans, family members and friends of the winners, citizens, neighborhood associations and neighborhood councils, among others.
The mayor of Cartagena, Noelia Arroyo, in her welcoming speech, reminded the attendees that “sport is also the athletes who don’t win medals. Those who practice without competing are also athletes as well as the coaches and managers of the clubs. And the journalists who get their stories out there. The people who take care of the facilities, the teachers who use it to teach values, the subjects who have chosen it as a form of integration are sports.”
During the act, a posthumous tribute was paid to the President of UCAM, Jose Luis Mendozaand the Director General of the Virgen de la Caridad Hospital, Jose Maria Ferrer, recently deceased, who stood out for their sponsorship, fans and patronage of the sport. The councilor wished to remember the work of both, stressing that “the people and organizations behind teams and athletes, putting the media, sponsored competitions and competitors leave a very deep mark”.
A total of 27 prizes were awarded. of athletes, organizations, clubs, schools, associations and companies that have excelled in the sport of Cartagena in the last two years. To which Arroyo greeted on behalf of the Cartagena City Council, assuring or “how proud we are of all of you. I’m sure you will all return to the town hall to share medals and triumphs.’
The awards were presented through a a jury composed of professionals of the media, technicians and municipal representatives. And the awards were presented by various members of the municipal society.
