Wanda Baksa Earns MPSF / KAP7 Newcomer of the Week Honors

TEMPE, Ariz. – Freshman Attacker was named Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Newcomer of the Week for the second time this season after her 22 point record-setting weekend at the second Arizona State Invitational. She led the Sun Devils to a 3-0 record at home this weekend, good for the team’s seventh straight win at home.

In totality, Wanda Bucks again had a 22 (10G-12A) point weekend in ASU’s three wins at home. On Friday, she notched three goals and one assist, good for four points and sole possession of all-time points for a freshman with 84 points— a record that had not been touched since Rowie Webster set it in 2006.

With her three multi-goal performances at home, she tallied her 13th game with 3+ goals for her 18th multi-goal game on the season.

She highlighted that 22 point weekend with a record-setting game against No. 22 Harvard, after setting the single-game assist record, with seven, and single-game point record with 10 total points after taking on three goals against the Crimson. With her seven assists, she broke the current Assistant Coach Petra Pardi‘s single-game six assist record, one that was set in 2014.

She followed that performance with 4G and 4A in the 17-3 win over No. 25 Marist. Defensively, she totaled three steals, three field blocks, and three drawn exclusions on the weekend.

Baksa now leads the NCAA in points (102), and field blocks (18), and is second in goals (61) and assists (41). Her 102 points move her up to third all-time in single-season points in program history. Baksa also played her way into the top-ten single-season program records for both goals scored (7th) and season assists (5th).

Others Nominated: Jessie Rose (California), Honnie Vandeweghe-O’Shea (USC), Nicole Struss (UCLA).
